Also called eway bill, EWB, electronic way bill
An e-way bill is a document you generate online before goods move by road, rail, air or ship. Part A holds the invoice details, such as the GSTIN of both parties, the value and the HSN codes. Part B holds the vehicle number. It is generally needed when a consignment is worth more than ₹50,000, and some states set their own limit for movement within the state.
Goods moving without a valid e-way bill can be stopped and detained, with a penalty. It also applies to stock you send to your own branch or for job work, not only to sales. The transporter or driver must be able to show it on the road, on paper or on a phone.
A wholesaler in Ludhiana sends goods worth ₹1,40,000 to a shop in Delhi, about 310 km away. For normal cargo, validity is one day for every 200 km or part of it, so this e-way bill is valid for two days. Kownt X prepares e-way bill files ready to upload.
